Sketch Note - Afu

Last week on Friday Mrs Anderson taught us about sketch notes. Sketch notes are a better way than listing things, its better than writing about 3 paragraphs, it can help you understand the learning, it helps you tell others a learning story by putting it into your own words, and it will make you stay focused and listen. Our topic was questions because we already knew about questions. In the photo is a sketch note about questions, it has the 6 w's (what, when, where, who, why, which), and it has words turned into pictures. I found sketch notes useful because it helps me with my learning and it can help me stay focused.I really enjoyed learning about sketch notes because it can help me in my learning.

Provocation - Olympic venues

LI: To consider both points of view/ opinions/ perspectives when forming an opinion. Today LS2 had to create a DLO about Olympic venues, our question was Should host nations have to spend so much money on building Olympic venues? We had to include both points of view, my opinion, a before and after picture of an Olympic venue. My opinion was No because they spend alot of money on the buildings. Point of view A thought no, and point of view B thought yes. I chose to do the National Beijing Stadium for before and after, we also had to attribute our images. They spent 2.9 billion on the National Beijing Stadium, I think that is a waste of money because they don't reuse the buildings.

Writing: Birthday Invitation - Afu

Today for Writing I went on to a site, I had to spin a wheel it said Write a birthday invitation for a powerful snow leopard who collects stamps. I think I wrote a good invitation because it has good information of where the birthday is, who is coming, when it is, and what going to happen at the birthday. After we wrote the invitation we had to draw a picture. I drawed a picture of a cake because it represents a birthday.

Writing: Speech - Afu

Today for writing I said my speech in front of a small audience ( Mere, Reon and Maata. My speech was about Animal Cruelty, It is about why people should stop abusing the animals. Mere, Reon, and Maata had to talk about what I did well and what I need to improve on. One thing I did well was speak clear and loud. One thing I need to improve on is to use eye contact. I finished at a good time because I spoke slowly and a bit fast.
Animal Cruelty
Woof woof, meow, oink, that is the call for help. Hello boys and girls I am here to talk to use about animal Cruelty .Did you know that approximately (almost) 7.6 million animals enter an animal shelter every year, 3.9 are dogs and 3.4 are cats? What makes it right for people to abuse their pets. Why do people not care that animals get abused. Think about what you do to you pet?

This needs to STOP now .Animal cruelty is a big problem because it is hurting the animals. Imagine how the animals feel when they get abused for little reasons. Most people think it is okay to not feed their pets just because they have done something bad. Animals are living creatures, just like humans. It’s your job to take care of your pets the right way.

Think about what the scientist do to the animals, they put needles into their skin, they do research on them, they do little operations on them, and the scientists cut off their fur. How is that fair how would you feel if you got skin taken off you? Would it feel nice having mean feed-back it hurts it’s not nice.

Most of the animals suffer from being tortured by their owners. What if your parents tourgered you it would hurt you. It most probably hurts the animals more than it hurts you. So stop hurting your pets and save them. If you think abusing your animals are good then think again.

In the NZ Herald's news it was shocking to find out that people have to keep their pets inside because there were cats that got hanged from trees. This is revolting news to hear about what happened.

How do you look after your pets? Why do scientist do tests on the animals? Why do you hurt them? When have they hurt you? Why are you hurting them? I think that I take good care of my pet because I know what to feed them and how to take care of them.

This is my Speech, I hate it how people abuse animals like they're not important. It is very important to look after and care for your pet. It is not fair for the animals to get tortured, abused, and hit just because they made a mess in your backyard. Think about what your pet has done for you. This problem can be fixed by taking care, feeding, loving and treating them like they are your family.

Most of the animals suffer from being tortured by their owners. What if your parents tourgered you it would hurt you. It most probably hurts the animals more than it hurts you. So stop hurting your pets and save them. If you think abusing your animals are good then think again.

Writing: Shoe Narrative - Afu

As I was purchased from the shop I was living happily with my owner. When he first put me on I was really excited because I have never been worn before. The next day he put me on, I was so surprised because I had no idea of where he was going to take me, he went outside and he started walking, we went somewhere to place that I couldn't even describe, he was walking and I was sang along, then I stopped because there was something ahead of me that was calling me to come closer, I was trying to stop him but it was to late I went under the mud it was horrible, I couldn't breath. First I couldn't even survive through this hideous mud, I was scared of what he would do to me. I was covered in this  disgusting mud, while he was walking I was crying for help, then he came to this interesting thing I could not describe it but it did not look nice, it barked, I got scared it came all the way up to me and dribbled on me, “Eww that’s disgusting.” Than I turned around, and I saw my owner coming , he picked me up and put me into the locker room which was filled of shoes, then they started talking to me. I could smell the disgusting smell of the dog, I could hear the people talking on the little objects, I could taste the slimy dog dribble inside my mouth, I could see the people walking past me texting on their little objects , then I could feel my owner touching me with his muddy hands. Then these other people that looked old saw me and told my owner to go and put the shoes in your locker where it was supposed to be, then he put me in his locker and these friendly shoes was talking to me again, I talked and talked and talked until I was able to get to know them better. Then after awhile I was able to call them “ My Family.”

Today for writing we had to write a narrative with a buddy, my buddy was June. June and I had 15 minutes to write this paragraph and had a few minutes to prove read our Narrative with our partner. After that we had to plan what was going to be in this paragraph. Than we had to go back to back to make  our narrative more interesting. After that we were timed and than we had to write one sentence each.

Blue Whale

The blue whale is a type of mammal called a cetacean and is a type of baleen whale. The scientific name for the blue whale is the Balaenoptera musculus. Blue whales are by far the biggest animals in the world. Even the biggest dinosaur that ever lived doesn't come close in size to the blue whale.
Diet

To eat, blue whales filter their food through stiff, bony, comb-like teeth called baleen plates. Their main diet is krill (small creatures that are less than 2 cm in size). A blue whale can eat up to 3,600 kilograms of krill a day during its peak consumption period. Blue whales catch their food by diving down to about 500 meters below the surface.
Habitat

Blue whales are found in open oceans from the icy waters of the extreme Southern Hemisphere to the Aleutian Islands off Alaska at the northern boundary of the Pacific Ocean. Summers are spent in polar waters because food production is higher there.
Appearance

Blue whales are simply enormous. Their heart is the size of a small car. A blue whale aorta (the main blood vessel) alone is large enough for a human to crawl through. They can weigh over 200,000 kilograms! Female blue whales are generally larger than males. Blue whales are light bluish gray on their dorsal side and mottled grey whitish on their bellies. Some have yellowish bellies.
Endangered species

The worldwide blue whale population is not known, however, blue whales are considered endangered according to the U.S. Endangered Species Act. For many years blue whales were hunted extensively for their large quantities of baleen, blubber, and meat. Although blue whales are protected, their populations show few signs of recovery.
Blue whales are large mammals that spends their time in the icy oceans.  They only eat krill and are not a threat to any other creature in the ocean.  Blue whales face the risk of extinction if humans continue to hunt them for their baleen, blubber and meat.
LI: to understand the structure of information reports .This week for writing we learnt about information reports. We had to highlight the introduction, body paragraphs, interesting facts, Title of body paragraphs, Description of topic, topic sentence that tells the reader what the paragraph is about, tell the reader what the report is about, Special knowledge to help the readers understand, and Conclusion.
